Daan Wensing
Function: director IBM
Telephone: +31 (0)6 2931 7183 (The Netherlands)
E-mail: daan@tripleee.nl
Daan was born on the border of the Dutch nature reserve
‘Veluwe’ and grew up enjoying one of the last true and vast
nature areas in Western Europe. This, together with the fact
that his father is a biologist at the Arnhem Zoo, made him
appreciate nature from his earliest beginnings. A logical
consequence of this upbringing was that Daan decided to study
general biology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. When
Daan was an exchange student at the University of Florida, USA,
he took courses in park management and decided that this would
be the focus for the rest of his studies. During his Masters
Daan went to Chile to study an endangered deer species (Huemul).
In developing a strategy for survival he faced the recurring
question: how to finance nature conservation? After having
completed a masters in general biology he started a new masters
in Science and Business to add the necessary economical insight
and business skills. During his work for WWF in South Africa as
a consultant and at IUCN NL Daan combined the knowledge he
gained during his two masters which was the basis for his work
at Triple E.
Daan loves to travel and enjoys, when time allows, to be in
nature. |

Simone was
as a child often found along the river Oude Maas, in the
wetlands or along the banks. After her first job as a
documentalist / researcher at the National Planning Department,
she was press documentalist for Sijthoff Press. This largest
press Documentation Centre of the Netherlands became a separate
company (SVP) for commercial information to the Dutch media,
with a network of foreign partners. Acquired by Wegener it was
transformed into WIC Media, where she became head of department.
For NRC Handelsblad, she was assistant to the editor.
In her spare time nature always played a major role. In
England, she was active for the British Trust of Conservation
Volunteers.
Since June 2010 she organizes the Landscape Auctions and
strengthens the international activities of Triple E. Simone
compares nature as a product with information: it seems to be
quite normal to most people that it is free and widely
available. Beautiful landscape has a big economic value, like
good information. This principle of Triple E gives her the
chance to make a job of her love for nature. |

I am a Chinese student who follows the master program
Transnational Ecosystem-based Water Management at the University
of Nijmegen. From May 1st, 2009 to the end of July, I am doing
my internship at Triple E. The research topic is defined as "the
Economic Valuation of Water Ecological Restoration Projects
Based on EFDS Model". This is a Economic model developed by
Triple E, perceives natural areas as 'firms' for which all
capital flows can be visualized and commoditized. Considering
this model is new and never applied in China before, the
research is therefore focused on the Water quality improvement,
Economic argumentation to implement measurement for flood
protection and Ecological Restoration in the Dianchi Lake in
previous 10 years and related money flows.
